Triple Feature! Ocarina Rilakkuma + Koguma-chan’s Acorn House + Acorn Rilakkuma Plush!

Weekend relaxation mode!

Today’s post features three great bear plush associated with Chairoikoguma (チャイロイコグマ) / Koguma-chan (こぐまちゃん)! “Chairoi” means brown, “koguma” means bear cub, and “chan” is an honorific with an endearing connotation. Both names for the same cute bear! Koguma-chan was introduced to the Rilakkuma crew in March 2013, and has been highlighted in two additional series since then!

First up is Ocarina Rilakkuma, the Caravan exclusive plush from Korilakkuma’s New Friend Series!

Contemplative ocarina time in the forest!

“Hey! What are you doing in my secret spot?”

リラックマキャラバン限定商品あつめてぬいぐるみ - コリラックマと新しいお友達 - Korilakkuma's New Friend - Caravan Series - Ocarina Rilakkuma plush - bee detail

The cutest bear bee sits on top of his head! I love the bear face, fuzzy pom-pom antennae, and tiny circular wings!

リラックマキャラバン限定商品あつめてぬいぐるみ - コリラックマと新しいお友達 - Korilakkuma's New Friend - Caravan Series - Ocarina Rilakkuma plush - ocarina detail

Rilakkuma plays a beautiful baby blue ocarina. I absolutely love the soft color, submarine shape, and subtle bear emblem!

リラックマキャラバン限定商品あつめてぬいぐるみ - コリラックマと新しいお友達 - Korilakkuma's New Friend - Caravan Series - Ocarina Rilakkuma plush - tag art

Tag art features Rilakkuma relaxing on a tree branch with Kiiroitori taking a peek! And of course, a little bear bee flitting around! I tried to recreate this scene in the first photo hehehe.

Though this plush does not explicitly look like it’s Koguma-chan related, he is the Caravan release for Korilakkuma’s New Friend Series, the series that introduced Koguma-chan back in March 2016! Check out the video for this series:

This plush represents my favorite scene from this series, Rilakkuma peacefully playing the ocarina by a tree while Korilakkuma plays with Koguma-chan!

Huge thanks to @rilakkumacrossing for the tip on this bear—I love him so much!

Next up is Koguma-chan’s Acorn House Playset!

てぶくろをとどけに - チャイロイコグマの どんぐりのおうちセット - Kogumachan - Chairoikoguma - Handmade Mittens Series - Acorn House Plush Playset - full

Welcome to Koguma-chan’s acorn home!

てぶくろをとどけに - チャイロイコグマの どんぐりのおうちセット - Kogumachan - Chairoikoguma - Handmade Mittens Series - Acorn House Plush Playset - separate parts

Check out all of the separate parts! The acorn house, Koguma-chan, chair, scarf, bee, and of course, the handmade mittens!

てぶくろをとどけに - チャイロイコグマの どんぐりのおうちセット - Kogumachan - Chairoikoguma - Handmade Mittens Series - Acorn House Plush Playset - bee detail

A smaller scale take on the bear bee! Compared to the one attached to Ocarina Rilakkuma, this one has all the features flattened to one side, and the wings are displayed dorsally instead of laterally.

てぶくろをとどけに - チャイロイコグマの どんぐりのおうちセット - Kogumachan - Chairoikoguma - Handmade Mittens Series - Acorn House Plush Playset - mitten detail

The eponymous handmade mittens! You can actually physically put these on Koguma-chan’s paws, but seemed like a little bit of a hassle.

てぶくろをとどけに - チャイロイコグマの どんぐりのおうちセット - Kogumachan - Chairoikoguma - Handmade Mittens Series - Acorn House Plush Playset - scarf detail

Cute baby pink scarf to keep him warm, just in case his chest hair doesn’t! And at this angle, you can take a peek at Koguma-chan’s signature honey print!

てぶくろをとどけに - チャイロイコグマの どんぐりのおうちセット - Kogumachan - Chairoikoguma - Handmade Mittens Series - Acorn House Plush Playset - outside house detail fish

In addition to a window, Koguma-chan’s home features a cute acorn stem on the side of the roof, and there’s an elastic loop for the doorknob to keep the door closed! And one of my favorite details, a light blue fish on the door, just like the fish he caught with Rilakkuma! And like the ones they eventually eat for dinner, if you follow their story.

てぶくろをとどけに - チャイロイコグマの どんぐりのおうちセット - Kogumachan - Chairoikoguma - Handmade Mittens Series - Acorn House Plush Playset - box insert art

No tag for this playset, but the box shows all the component parts, as well as the source illustration! If you look closely, you can see that the bear bee has his own beehive attached to Koguma-chan’s home!

I absolutely love playsets, and this one is no exception!

One thing that is silly about a lot of these house-themed playsets is that while all the component parts can fit comfortably inside for storage, they really do look super crammed in there for a living space—like all Koguma-chan can do in his own house is sit because there isn’t room for much else haha.

Also, these different Koguma-chan plushes make it hard for me to figure out what Koguma-chan’s body shape really is! This version makes him look a lot skinnier than the illustrations. Furthermore, he looks a lot different from his standard M classic counterpart, who then still looks quite different from his fishing counterpart. What is the truth?

I think Koguma-chan is such a super addition to the Rilakkuma group! I love that he shares his passion for fishing with Rilakkuma!

Speaking of which, here’s Acorn Rilakkuma Plush!

てぶくろをとどけに - あつめてぬいぐるみ - Handmade Mittens Series - Rilakkuma - standard plush - full

Rilakkuma keeping warm in a beautiful acorn poncho!

てぶくろをとどけに - あつめてぬいぐるみ - Handmade Mittens Series - Rilakkuma - standard plush - poncho detail

A beautiful knit poncho with collar, embroidered floral band pattern, delicate fringe trim, and embroidered acorn, cherry, and flower details! My favorite is the wood finish button in the middle, reminds me a lot of an earth-theme Korilakkuma hehehe.

てぶくろをとどけに - あつめてぬいぐるみ - Handmade Mittens Series - Rilakkuma - standard plush - ugg boot detail

Of course, since it was cold when this series came out, Rilakkuma is wearing some stylish ugg boots! Hahahaha doesn’t he look so warm?

てぶくろをとどけに - あつめてぬいぐるみ - Handmade Mittens Series - Rilakkuma - standard plush - acorn hat detail

At the very top, an acorn top hat with leaf detail, a lot like the roof on Koguma-chan’s home!

てぶくろをとどけに - あつめてぬいぐるみ - Handmade Mittens Series - Rilakkuma - standard plush - tag art

Tag art from the series depicting the matching handmade mittens between Korilakkuma and Koguma-chan, but it actually looks like Rilakkuma isn’t wearing the outfit he has on in the plush at all haha! Looks like he’s wearing a scarf instead, what’s the deal! Nice peek of the tiny fabric tag here too, which is a gold “R” with an acorn cap on a pink background.

So fancy and detailed! This sylvan poncho aesthetic is very reminiscent of the Store Exclusive designs from the 2010 Forest Series, don’t you think?

Both Koguma-chan’s Acorn House and this Acorn Rilakkuma are from the Handmade Mittens Series (てぶくろをとどけに), released in October 2016. As the story goes, Korilakkuma gave handmade (paw-made?) mittens as a gift to Koguma-chan, her newest friend. Check out this animation about their story!

I’m not 100% sure what acorns have to do with all of this, but it is a really pleasant motif—it reminds me a lot of the Happy Natural Time Series that paired deer with freshly baked fruit pies.

Big thanks to my Aunt Lulu again for facilitating the immigration of the Koguma-chan Acorn House and Acorn Rilakkuma plush—what a fabulous set!

The three plush featured here join my existing M Koguma-chan and fishing Rilakkuma/Koguma-chan plush for the Koguma-chan themed section of my collection!

Now that we’ve revisited Koguma-chans throughout history, what do you think about this summer’s Koguma-chan series: Korilakkuma Meets Chairokoguma (コリラックマ meets チャイロイコグマ)?

コリラックマ meets チャイロイコグマ - Korilakkuma meets Chairoikoguma - cover

Korilakkuma Loves Koguma-chan so much!

コリラックマ meets チャイロイコグマ - Korilakkuma meets Chairoikoguma - ぬいぐるみ - standard plush design

This series gives Korilakkuma a light pink floral poncho, and gives Koguma-chan a blue and white flower crown!

The aesthetic is so pretty and soft! These designs were released just this past May, and should still be on the shelves at Rilakkuma Stores everywhere!

One of my favorite things about these Kogumachan series is the awesome food designs that pop up, like this one at the Korilakkuma x Hands Cafe collaboration this season:

https://instagram.com/p/BUntqaRhoOs

Roar!!! Big ferocious Koguma-chan burger! So adorable! A meal very fit for a Koguma-chan hehehe.

What do you think about this newer Koguma-chan series? Has Koguma-chan integrated himself well into Rilakkuma’s world?

Kichijoji 6th Anniversary Series Archery Rilakkuma Plush! + Deep Sea 2017 collaboration!

We were blasted with a summer sun last week, but now it’s been rainy and gloomy everyday! What happened? I guess now it’s just nap weather, which is fine by me hehehe.

Introducing the last of the recent sports Rilakkuma additions: Archery Rilakkuma plush from the Kichijoji 6th Anniversary Series!

Archer Rilakkuma, ready for action!

リラックマストア吉祥寺店6周年記念 - 弓道 - あつめてアニバーサリーぬいぐるみ - arrow detail

Rilakkuma draws a colorful dango arrow! And one of my favorite details of this plush: all kyūdō archers traditionally hold the bow with their left hand, and draw with their right hand, and Rilakkuma maintains this technique, albeit with paws.

A lovely yellow bear on the back of the uniform, a motif consistent with the other bears of this series.

Tag art features a wonderful yellow and white target, with a bear symbol at the center.

リラックマストア吉祥寺店6周年記念 - 弓道 - あつめてアニバーサリーぬいぐるみ - sports team full

Bear Country athletes from 2016! Who will be next?

Right on target! This dango archer was released as part of the Kichijoji Rilakkuma Store’s 6th anniversary celebration, held in October 2016.

Kyūdō (弓道) is the Japanese martial art of archery that began in Japan long before recorded history. Rilakkuma is depicted here wearing a standard kyūdō uniform, proudly representing his nation’s athleticism and culture. I love how the sports theme for this anniversary cycle incorporates a wide range of sports from Japanese history from traditional to modern!

As this is not Rilakkuma first time as an archer, I love the contrast between this traditional kyūdō design and the elegant Sagittarius design from the 2013 Zodiac Series! I appreciate that these concepts are so distinct in both general feel and details, and it is great having two talented Rilakkuma archers here!

Major gratitude to my Aunt Lulu for adding this precision Rilakkuma to my collection—thank you!

Over in Rilakkuma-land, an awesome collaboration coming up: Deep Sea 2017 x Rilakkuma!

This summer, Rilakkuma is teaming up with the National Museum of Science in Tokyo for their special exhibition on deep sea life called Deep Sea 2017 (深海2017) which opens July 11!

深海2017 - リラックマコラボグッズ - Rilakkuma x Deep Sea 2017 - cover

Rilakkuma snuggles a giant squid! Kiiroitoi rides a suspiciously adorable anglerfish! And Korilakkuma… is riding a jellyfish? Any insight on what animal that is would be appreciated haha.

Wow, what an incredible collaboration! I adore the playful artwork and concept! I hope they make a Rilakkuma and giant squid plush hehehe.

The first live giant squid was photographed back in 2013, and in the 4 years since then, the world’s been fascinated with the mysteries of giant squid and its friends of the deep sea. This exhibition sounds like an absolute delight, and I love that Rilakkuma is part of it!

I absolutely love deep sea creatures! Have you seen Planet Earth? There is really some beautiful footage of deep sea life on their “Oceans Deep” episode!

Ever wanted to try Rilakkuma shaved ice? You can this summer in Japan!

リラックマたちのかき氷が - リラックマコラボカフェ - Rilakkuma shaved ice

Rilakkuma is coffee/milk shaved ice and vanilla ice cream, and Korilakkuma is milk shaved ice with mango ice cream! Love how Korilakkuma’s button is even peeking out!

Two of the current Rilakkuma collaboration cafes, auréole d’ange and Cafe Coconoha, will be introducing beautiful Rilakkuma and Korilakkuma shaved ice desserts starting June 20. Don’t they look tasty and refreshing for the summer?

The Rilakkuma collaboration cafes this season (auréole d’ange x Rilakkuma, Coconoha x Rilakkuma, and Korilakkuma x Hands Cafe) have truly beautiful, wildly intricate, and stunningly detailed designs. I am always blown away by how these collaboration cafes seem to outdo themselves in design complexity each year!

My sister will be going to Japan next week, and hopefully will be able to share some photos and comments about her Rilakkuma adventures across Japan in a guest post series! Stay tuned!

What Rilakkuma food would you most like to see?

I’ve seen these cafes accomplish beautiful burgers and dainty waffles, but I’d really love to see a Rilakkuma ramen shop! Maybe with a ton of bear-shaped carrots and seaweed and Rilakkuma-molded tofu blocks, like the Nabe Rilakkuma plush playset. What about you?

Goodies from the Rilakkuma Booth at Anime Expo 2016!

Woooo! Check out this swag from the Anime Expo 2016 Rilakkuma booth!

Rilakkuma Anime Expo 2016 - swag

Collectible Rilakkuma bag, fan, sticker, brochure, and deco tape – wow!!!

Haha so I didn’t actually go to Anime Expo this year but! Rilakkuma.crossing did, and she picked up a ton of Rilakkuma stuff for me from their booth – so huuuuuuuge THANK YOU!!! (And check out her Rilakkuma-filled instagram!) I appreciate the opportunity to live the Anime Expo this year vicariously through her haha.

As someone who buys most of their Rilakkuma online, Rilakkuma events like these are always something I wanted to go to! I love meeting other Rilakkuma fans and actually seeing Rilakkuma stuff in person haha – maybe one year I’ll get to go!

I love the stuff they gave out this year because look! There’s Koguma-chan! Haha the introduction of Koguma-chan (Korilakkuma’s New Friend Series) has been a huge highlight for me this year, so I love that he is so prominent in their merchandising here in the US now too!

And woohoo that the fan features my favorite Koguma-chan scene with Rilakkuma playing the ocarina :D

Rilakkuma.crossing also picked up a black tank top for me from the newest Japan LA x Rilakkuma clothing line!

I love it! Super soft material that matches will lots of other items – easy to dress up or dress down!

I feel so confident wearing this, and I can’t wait to see what Japan LA cooks up for their Rilakkuma clothing line next!! You can pick up this top and their other collaboration pieces over at Japan LA’s online store!

Elsewhere in the Kuma-verse: have you spotted the A’PIEU x Rilakkuma collaboration?

Super cute!

APIEU is a Korean cosmetics brand, and their Rilakkuma collaboration line includes foundation, bronzer, blush, cleanser, and eye products is out now – wow!

I definitely don’t need any more beauty products, but I have to admit, I’m a huge sucker for cute product packaging and marketing.

Speaking of egregiously cute, the newest addition to the summer Teahouse Series is this San-X Net Shop Exclusive plush!

Teahouse Series - リラックマ茶屋 ぬいぐるみ - 大きいだんごもーちもちクッション - Net Shop Exclusive - cover

Big dango cushion! Korilakkuma even has her signature button! 10,800円 on pre-order.

Teahouse Series - リラックマ茶屋 ぬいぐるみ - 大きいだんごもーちもちクッション - Net Shop Exclusive - instructions

There’s even a spot to rest your head next to team Rilakkuma!

Okay, well isn’t this just adorable? Seems about time for a dango-heavy theme to feature the Rilakkuma team faces in each of the dango pieces haha. I think this is a really creative and appropriate design, and just perfectly big and bombastic as I have come to expect from Net Shop exclusives.

Pre-order is now open at the San-X Net Shop, with expected delivery in early October.

Finally, the Rilakkuma World Tour is wrapping up with its final locations, and as such is wrapping up with a final bus playset!

Rilakkuma Store 7th Anniversary World Tour - スペシャルアニバーサリーぬいぐるみセット - 世界のリラックマ - full

How worldly! 13,800円 available on August 6th.

This big yellow bus features the themed Rilakkumas from London, Mexico, Africa, Austria, Hawaii, and France – and their tour guide in pink is who I’m guessing is the big boss representing all of the Rilakkuma stores celebrating their anniversaries!

That’s all for now! Any new Rilakkuma additions in your horizon, or did you get to go to the Anime Expo this year?

I just started my internal medicine rotation this week and it’s been so great so far. I also finished all of my exams for the year, so right now, I just have to focus on learning and getting ready for residency next year – feels amazing!

Stay cool with Rila-cool-ma!

American West Rilakkuma Plushes! + Independence Day weekend issue!

They had to meet their fellow American Rilakkuma from NYC!

These patriotic mini-plushes were released in October 2015 as part of the Kichijoji Rilakkuma Store’s 5th Anniversary celebration, but I thought it was appropriate to write about for this weekend as the United States celebrates its Independence Day on July 4!

Like always, I enjoy the wonderful details such as Rilakkuma’s dango holster, and the cactus, bear and star motifs – really an excellent and cohesive set!

Gosh, TONS of things going on in the Rilakkuma-verse recently!

This weekend is the Anime Expo, and the Rilakkuma booth is presenting in full cuteness! JapanLA Clothing will be debuting their new Rilakkuma clothing line, and it’s alphabet themed!

I really want one of the black tank tops! This line will be premiering at the Rilakkuma booth (#4405) at the Anime Expo starting today, and will be available online at JapanLA.com after the show!

Anyone going to be there this weekend? I’ve always wanted to go, but it’s just so far away! Can’t wait for when they expand out here and hold events in the southeastern United States one day!

Now for Rilakkuma news across the Pacific: the Teahouse (茶屋) Series is coming out this month!

Teahouse Series - リラックマ茶屋 ぬいぐるみ - リラックマストア限定 - bento box playset

A tidy bento box playset with the whole team! 5000円.

In Japanese tradition, these teahouses (茶屋) are free-standing structures built exclusively for tea ceremonies. They have a deep architectural history stemming from the start of the Edo period, and there are many famous teahouses across Japan. I think this a great part of Japanese history and culture, and I love that it is incorporated into this summer’s Rilakkuma designs!

Lots of great items! I will be trying my hand at getting the bento box, to match my Oden and Osechi set! I like the dango-shaped Rilakkuma plush, too. What about you? Anything catching your eye?

Next up in Rilakkuma’s World Tour is Mexico and Hawaii for Kamiotai’s 1st and Harajuku’s 4th anniversary, respectively!

Harajuku 4th Anniversary - 原宿店4周年記念 - cover

Beautiful beach bums enjoying the Hawaiian sun this summer with the local fauna! 1580円 each.

The Harajuku Rilakkuma Store’s 4th Anniversary celebration starts tomorrow, July 2! The Hawaiian imagery they use is always very beautiful, but Rilakkuma and friends have visited Hawaii before in their Aloha Rilakkuma Series back in 2013 – I suppose it was a good enough vacation back then that they revisited again this year haha.

Kamiotai 1st Anniversary - 上小田井店1周年記念 - cover

Feeling festive with maracas! 1580円 each.

The Kamiotai Rilakkuma Store will be celebrating its 1st anniversary next weekend (July 9), and the theme is Mexico! And I love a poncho-clad Rilakkuma plush haha. Seems like they enjoy traveling in the Americas! They picked some great places to visit to enjoy the summer sun!

Also, a new smartphone app for the virtual Rilakkuma collector: Collect! Rilakkuma (Atsumete! Rilakkuma – あつめて!リラックマ) is out now!

Collect! Rilakkuma - cover 1

What better app idea than collecting virtual Rilakkumas?

Collect! Rilakkuma - cover 2

Whoa! That screenshot on the left looks about as stuffed full of Rilakkumas as the shelf in my apartment hahaha

You can download it now on the App Store or Google Play store! I’ll try to download it soon and figure it out with my extremely limited grasp of Japanese haha. Anyone tried this out yet? Looks very cute, and seems a lot like the cat collecting app (Neko Atsume: Kitty Collector) that has been super popular!

Finally, have you checked out Canon Asia’s collaboration with Rilakkuma?

Gosh, isn’t that the most adorable promotional video? Canon Asian has a great contest on Instagram right now for Asian Rilakkuma and photography fans – you can win a Canon EOS M10 kit and a limited edition Canon EOS M10 Rilakkuma plush just by posting your Rilakkuma photos based on their challenge themes – “food” and “chillout” are the themes going on right now!

I think this has motivated a lot of folks to take some very creative Rilakkuma pictures! I have really enjoyed seeing everyone’s Rilakkuma photos recently on Instagram, and it’s inspired me to take more time again taking Rilakkuma photos like I used to!

Stay cool, and have a wonderful summer!

Rilakkuma Lifestyle - Poolside

I’ll be having cocktails by the pool – red, white, and blue themed for Independence Day!

I’m always so excited to introduce new bears to my transportation Rilakkuma collection!

This pair of bears from Komachi and Hayabusa came out in July 2015 as part of an ongoing collaboration between Rilakkuma and Japan Railways (JR). As I wrote in a previous post when this design was first announced, these two lines have very meaningful names, as Hayabusa (はやぶさ) means peregrine falcon (a bird that has the fastest speed in the animal kingdom), and Komachi (こまち) is named after a famous waka poet from the area, Ono no Komachi.

Of course, this all means that my transportation Rilakkuma collection just steadily grows…

Transportation Collection - 10-23-15

My complete transportation Rilakkuma collection as of today! Can’t wait to see which designs are next! Yamanote (x2), Hankyu (x2), Dr. Yellow (x2), Shinkansen, and now Hayabusa and Komachi!

I think this is my most complete series in my collection! One day, I’ll take them all to their origin trains like Liemzie did for her Hankyu Rilakkuma – make sure to check out her adorable photos and video of her Hankyu Rilakkuma at the Hankyu line in Osaka!

In other news, the second Cats Series came out this month, and I love the direction they’ve been taking with it this year!

Net Shop Exclusive features a life-size (cat-sized) Rilakkuma and Korilakkuma in full costumes, nestled with kittens that look just like them! 8,424円 for both.

Remember the Cats Series from 2014? Looks like it was so successful that they revisited the cats theme again this year, too! 2015 is seeing lots of renewals, including the second iteration of Rilakkuma Factory! Personally, I love long term series that are revisited each year, like train bears, so I wouldn’t mind seeing other series revisited like the Bonjour Series or the Space Series!

I really adore the Net Shop Exclusive for this line because its to life-size! I love the Rilakkuma Cats Series because as someone who is highly allergic to actual cats, this is as close as I can get to snuggling with a cat in real life! The pre-order for the Cats Series 2 Net Shop Exclusive will be open until November, so make sure to place your order soon!

Speaking of new iterations on successful lines, check out this year’s Rilakkuma x J!NS PC line!

J!NS PC 2 - glasses and case

In addition to your glasses, each Rilakkuma x J!NS PC order comes with a beautiful cleaning cloth and case – wow!

J!NS PC 2 - plushes

In addition to glasses, you can also get J!NS PC-themed Rilakkuma plushies! A playset featuring Rilakkuma and pals sleeping with their glasses on for 4,100円, and a plush stand for 2,300円.

J!NS PC 2 - exclusive plush

Of course, they had to shake things up with this adorable exclusive: you can’t directly buy this diligent Rilakkuma working on his Kuma-book late into the night, you must purchase a pair of J!NS PC glasses, and win from a lottery where only something like 11 plushes will be given out, whoa! Wonder if any will pop up on the auctions, this is certainly one of the most exclusive collector’s items!

J!NS PC is an eyewear design that is crafted to block out the blue light from computer and phone screens that can be harmful to your eyes. Most relevant, however, is that their collaboration with Rilakkuma is one of the cutest I have ever seen! All of their Rilakkuma collaboration products, which first came out in 2014, are really adorable and they are a testament to a quality collaboration!

Currently, I have the Rilakkuma plush from the first collaboration release. One day, maybe I will get my own set of J!NS PC glasses too hehehe – right now I’m just admiring their products from afar!

And to keep following Rilakkuma around the world, the next destination is the Netherlands, courtesy of the Sendai Rilakkuma Store’s 3rd Anniversary!

Sendai 3rd Anniversary - cover

Beautiful traditional outfits for team Rilakkuma! 1,580円 each.

What a creative design! Rilakkuma and Korilakkuma are wearing the traditional Dutch folk dress, while Kiiroitori is nestled in a klomp, a wooden clog from the Netherlands (though his is made of cloth!). My favorite part of this design is the tulip motif, as Holland in particular is quite famous for its tulips. Did you know that the Netherlands exports two-thirds of the world’s total fresh cut plants, flowers, and flower bulbs? Flowers and tulips in particular are a very meaningful symbol to Dutch culture and economy.

I’d love to spend some time in the Netherlands one day – so far, I’ve only had a stop-over in the Amsterdam airport, so I’ve never actually stepped foot in the city, but I’d love to travel there one day. Thanks for the inspiration, Rilakkuma!

In personal Rilakkuma anniversary news, as a true American patriot, I placed my order for the American West Rilakkuma, Korilakkuma, and Kiiroitori from the Kichijoji 5th Anniversary recently, so I should be able to share that set with you soon!

The next anniversary location will be at Tokyo Station in February 2016! Where in the world would like to Rilakkuma to go next? He’s been to the North Pole, Italy, the American West, and the Netherlands so far – where to next?

Finally, word on the street is that Rilakkuma and friends will be joined by a new bear friend in March 2016! I’m already quite comfortable with the current crew, so let’s see what happens in March!

Hope everyone’s keeping warm! The temperature here in Florida is rather perfect now :D I’m right in the middle of my outpatient internal medicine rotation, and life is pretty swell! Take care, and stay relaxed like Rilakkuma!

Hankyu Rilakkuma Plushies! + End of August Update!

Hope you’ve been having a wonderful summer! Say hello to these two Hankyu Rilakkumas!

Hankyu x Rilakkuma - 阪急電車× リラックマ - tag art

Tag art: features the front of the Hankyu line with Rilakkuma and friends, and the July stationmaster’s tag has an additional maroon border.

I love the color scheme of this line, and these bears hold a special place in my heart because I rode the Hankyu line with my family in 2013, and actually visited the Umeda Rilakkuma store while I was there! I’m so fortunate to now have these two Hankyu Rilakkuma stationmasters!

These two train kuma-ductors were released as part of the Hankyu x Rilakkuma (阪急電車× リラックマ) collaboration this year, with different colors for the April release (maroon) and the July release (black).

I really really love the transportation Rilakkumas, and I think they represent my most complete Rilakkuma collection. Hayabusa and Komachi Rilakkuma train plushes are already on their way over from Japan, and should be joining this collection next week!

Hankyu x Rilakkuma - transportation collection

New Hankyu bears joining the rest of the transportation team (Yamanote, Dr. Yellow, and Shinkansen) in bear country!

And of course, since summer is beginning to wind down, San-X is pummeling us with new releases to make our bank accounts weep. Check out what’s new!

Two Rilakkuma Stores are celebrating anniversaries in September, and the first one is the Sapporo Rilakkuma Store’s 4th Anniversary!

Sapporo 4th Anniversary - cover

All bundled up! Is Kobear supposed to be a yeti, arctic wolf, or what? 1580円 each.

Sapporo 4th Anniversary - tour

Sapporo’s anniversary event will also feature a special appearance from this North Pole Rilakkuma – awesome! The polar bear plush looks just like the Kobe Rilakkuma Store Opening playset polar bear!

This year’s anniversary theme for Sapporo is North Pole, which is very fitting because Sapporo certainly has a reputation for being one of the coldest locations in Japan! These chilly Rilakkuma plushes will be released as part of the Sapporo Rilakkuma Store’s anniversary event on September 5!

Next up is the Umeda Rilakkuma Store’s 7th Anniversary!

Umeda 7th Anniversary - cover

Korilakkuma is cruising on a gondola with a lovely hat that has its own ears haha, Rilakkuma’s making pizza, and Kiiroitori is indulging in pizza and gelato at the same time! 1580円 each.

Umeda 7th Anniversary - tour

This talented Rilakkuma pizza maker will be showing off his mozzarella basil pizza during the Umeda anniversary event – yum!

As the first Rilakkuma Store, the Umeda Rilakkuma holds a special place in Rilakkuma history. This year, the theme for their anniversary is Italy, and Rilakkuma and pals are celebrating by making some pizza! I’m not sure if Umeda has a connection to pizza that made them choose this theme, so if anyone know, I would love to hear!

I think this design is super cute, and as a lifelong pizza fan, I will most likely be getting the Rilakkuma from this series. Umeda’s 7th anniversary event will be held on the September 11.

Finally, since this is the 7th anniversary of Rilakkuma Stores in general, starting this September, all of the Rilakkuma Stores in Japan are featuring this super adorable Rilakkuma passport event called the Rilakkuma World Tour!

Rilakkuma Passport - cover

Passport/stamp book design featuring Airplane Rilakkuma! Sample stamps from Sapporo and Umeda, too!

Starting September 5, you can get a Rilakkuma passport if you make a purchase over 2000 yen, and then collect stamps at the 11 Rilakkuma Stores you visit during their anniversaries. As you got a peek of in the Sapporo (North Pole) and Umeda (Italy) anniversary designs, each anniversary design represents a different part of the world, so you can feel like you’re touring the world while you go from Rilakkuma Store to Rilakkuma Store – wow! What a wonderfully creative idea, and totally something I would love to do if I were in Japan!

As a sneak peek of what’s to come, the San-X Net Shop Facebook page shared a photo of this year’s Christmas 2015 Net Shop Exclusive playset!

Christmas 2015 San-X Net Shop Exclusive - sneak peek

Looks like a tasty dinner!

I always look forward to their playset designs every year, and it’s great to see a yummy Christmas dinner being shared by Team Rilakkuma! Pre-orders coming soon!

In other news, I’m currently doing my internal medicine inpatient rotation for medical school, and it’s really a blast! Long hours, but I’m really enjoying everything I do, I just wish I knew more haha, but I suppose that will come with time since I am just a student now! Magical Dining Month here in Orlando has just begun, so I’m really looking forward to sharing some wonderful meals with friends this month!

That’s all for now! What do you have your eye on, Rilakkuma or otherwise?

Sweet Happy Rilakkuma! + New! Rilakkuma x Hayabusa x Komachi!

Enjoying the summer heat? It’s over 90 degrees here, it must be so warm being fluffy like Rilakkuma!

Speaking of warm and fluffy, say hello to Sweet Happy Rilakkuma!

Sweet Happy Series - full

He really lives up to his name!

Sweet Happy Series - bow detail

His sea foam green bow also features a gold monogram pendant!

Sweet Happy Series - ear detail

The yellow pads on his ears, paws, and feet have a beautiful floral pattern!

Sweet Happy Series - pouch detail

The lining of his back pocket is shiny!

Sweet Happy Series - tag art

Tag art: a fluffy Rilakkuma with a key and a perfume bottle.

I love this bear because he has such a unique, fluffy texture that has a little shine to it, and unlike most standard sized Rilakkumas, he is naturally in a sitting position!

His fur length is probably between My Only and Winter Knit Rilakkuma. Like My Only Rilakkuma, his eyes and snout are brown instead of black. I really love the subtle variation from the norm in this plush!

This dainty plush is from the Sweet Happy (スイートハッピー) Series, which was released in May 2014.

Huge thanks again to my Aunt Lulu for helping me get this super cute Rilakkuma :D What would my collection be without her help?

Blogger Brenda (Nadeshikocha) has some great photos of her Sweet Happy Rilakkuma in action on her Instagram, check them out!

In transportation Rilakkuma news: a new train collaboration is here! Rilakkuma x Hayabusa x Komachi!

Hayabusa & Komachi - cover

Yay, new train bears!

Hayabusa & Komachi - full

Train bear plush: 2,000円. Plush keychain: 1,380円.

Look forward to these bears plus other merchandise like pouches, folders, pens, and towels on July 18! ike the Mochi Series, their shape is pretty tsum tsum-esque, don’t you think?

Hayabusa (はやぶさ) is a shinkansen service that runs between Tokyo and Shin-Aomori, and is painted a beautiful teal and violet. How appropriate that Hayabusa also means peregrine falcon, a bird that has the fastest speed in the animal kingdom! I like how the Hayabusa Rilakkuma has lights :)

Komachi (こまち) is also a shinkansen service like Hayabusa, and it runs from Tokyo to Akita. The Komachi line is painted red, and is named after a famous waka poet from the area, Ono no Komachi.

I have to say, I haven’t personally been on these lines before, but that hasn’t really stopped me from collecting Rilakkumas representing them haha. So I will certainly be trying to get these! It’ll be great for them to join the other train-bear hybrids: Dr. Yellow and Shinkansen!

Feeling overwhelmed by summer Rilakkuma news yet??? July 18th is going to be such a big day!!

Airplane Rilakkuma! + New! Hankyu Stationmaster design + JAXA 2015!

The theme of today’s post is transportation!

From my own collection, it’s Airplane Rilakkuma!

Airplane Series - full

View from the top!

Airplane Series - tag art

Tag art: Rilakkuma and friends on top of the plane, with a thematic homage to the Bonjour Series (2010)!

This plushie took flight in August 2014 in major airports across Japan, as part of the Rilakkuma Airline Series, which also featured travel items such as eye masks, neck pillows, and slippers!

Major thanks to my Aunt Lulu, who was able to arrange for me to get this plush from Haneda airport – thank you!

Following the theme of today’s post, there are two new transportation-related Rilakkuma sequels that I’m super excited about!

Do you remember the Rilakkuma x Hankyu collaboration from April that was the next in a long line of train Rilakkumas (Yamanote, Dr. Yellow)? Well, this July 18th, the Hankyu stationmaster is getting an updated uniform!

Rilakkuma x Hankyu - Summer 2015

From maroon to black! Summer stationmaster plush: 2,052円, Plush keychain: 1,404円, Multibox: 1,296円.

This updated stationmaster plush design is part of a special summer event on the Hankyu line, including new train designs for the summer on the Kobe, Takarazuka, and Kyoto lines as well as more products, prizes, and more!

I am lucky to have the April Hankyu Rilakkuma waiting for me at my parents’ house, but this new design is so tempting! I think I’ll have to go for this new design too if I keep doing well in school – I haven’t missed a train Rilakkuma yet!

Now for a different type of transportation, the popular Rilakkuma x JAXA collaboration plush from last year is getting a sequel this summer too! This year, the Rilakkuma x JAXA collaboration features the entire Rilakkuma team!

JAXA 2nd Edition - cover

Rilakkuma x JAXA was a special collaboration during last year’s Space Series! I’m glad they’re back again this summer, too!

JAXA 2nd Edition - full

Last year, there was only Rilakkuma, and now we have the whole team! 2,400円 each.

In addition to getting some uniforms fitted for Korilakkuma and Kiiroitori, you may also notice that the rocket they each hold is different from last year’s design! This year’s JAXA plushies feature the H-IIA rocket, a Japanese launch system used to launch satellites, lunar orbiting spacecraft, and interplanetary space probes – how exciting! I love it when Rilakkuma plush details have such significance to them!

Like the new Hankyu design, these new plushies will also be released on July 18, along keychains, towels, and ballpoint pens!

Also for Sumikko Gurashi fans, there’s an amazing Sumikko Gurashi Sushi Series coming soon in August!

Sumikko Sushi - cover

A delicious sushi theme!

Sumikko Sushi - full

Bowl playset: 3,000円, individual plush: 550円.

Probably one of my favorite Sumikko Gurashi series so far! Though hard to pick just one, I think my favorite from this design is Nisetsumuri (にせつむり) using sushi as a shell!

There’s so much more cool merchandise from this line that is exquisitely well designed, so be sure to check out the whole line!

Hope you enjoyed this travel-themed post (well, except for the sushi haha)! And happy Independence Day to all the Rilakkuma fans celebrating this weekend!

PS Rilakkuma US has a booth(#1911) at Anime Expo, with lots of merchandise and an event exclusive backpack! I hope they come to Florida soon so I can attend one of these amazing events!

End of June update!

Hello everyone, and sorry for the long delay since my last post! I’ve been working hard on my neurology clerkship, and got to see all kinds of cool things like angiograms, EEGs, and lumbar punctures. Lots of hard work, but I just took my neurology final yesterday, and next week, I will be starting with my psychiatry clerkship – wow, my third year of medical school is already flying by!

Since we’re gearing up for summer, Rilakkuma fans have a lot to look forward to, as generally Rilakkuma releases come in big waves this season! Here are a few releases I’m looking forward to!

Panda Series - cover

They’re cuddly pandas!

Panda Series - standard

Standard edition: 1,800円 each.

Panda Series - caravan

Caravan edition: 1,500円

Panda Series - store exclusive

Store exclusive edition: 2,100円 each

Panda Series (パンダでごろん) – July 2015

This is the big summer series this year! San-X usually saves the animal themes for the major fall release, but I really love this design! Pandas are so adorable, aren’t they? And I really love the idea of bears dressing up as other bears haha.

In addition to plushies, there’s lots of other cute products in the series, like this super adorable tissue box cover – wow!

I’m definitely getting a plushie from this series, but not sure which one yet! I’m leaning toward the caravan design right now, because I love the panda dango!

Tower Records 2015 - cover

Looks like Rilakkuma’s take on the Rolling Stones!

Tower Records 2015 - standard

Look at these rockstars! I always love a Rilakkuma in a jumpsuit hehehe. Only attainable by lottery after buying another product.

Tower Records 2015 - cafe collaboration

Glad to see that the Riakkuma x Tower Records Cafe is continuing this year too!

Rilakkuma x Tower Records 2015 – July 10

I look forward to this collaboration every year – I love seeing Rilakkuma and friends as rockstars! They look super cool this year with their sunglasses hehehe. I hope they release a playset like last year, too! Seems a little more complicated to get the standard sized collectible plushies this year though, since you have to buy something, then hope you get the plush though a lottery (thanks for the info, sundusts!).

I’m also really happy to see the continuation of the Rilakkuma partnership with Tower Records Cafe, too! There were some pretty amazing photos from last year’s event (check out angelacarpediem’s!), and I hope I get the opportunity to go in the future! I wonder what Rilakkuma-themed meal they’ll be serving this year! Rock on!

Kamiotai Opening - standard

Hooray, celebrating another Rilakkuma Store! 1,900円 each.

Kamiotai Opening - playset

Adorable playset released on the same day at all Rilakkuma Stores! 3,580円.

Kamiotai (上小田井) Rilakkuma Store Plus Sumikko Gurashi Shop Opening – July 3

Wow, another Rilakkuma Store is cropping up in Japan! Cool that it’s another Rilakkuma Store plus Sumikko Gurashi Shop like the one they recently opened in Fujimi. This time it’s in Kamiotai, in Nagoya!

In this series, Rilakkuma and Korilakkuma hold a golden (Kiiroitori) orca whale, a symbol of Nagoya. A very cute and meaningful design, and I love that these bears are sitting down (that Kiiroitori whale must be heavy)!

On the same day of the Kamiotai opening, Rilakkuma Stores across Japan will also be selling a special Rilakkuma playset! Can anyone shed any light on what they’re snacking on? Kinda looks like something dipped in honey.

Hahaha all of these new store openings are gonna make it hard for me to see all of them! When I went to Japan in 2013, I got to visit 4 out of 8, but now there are 11, and probably more to come! So cool to see more and more Rilakkuma Stores crop up!!

Harajuku 3rd Anniversary - cover

Popcorn Rilakkuma ready for the movies! 1,580円 each.

Harajuku 3rd Anniversary – July 4

In addition to a new Rilakkuma Store opening, the Harajuku Rilakkuma is celebrating it’s 3rd anniversary with a popcorn theme during Independence Day here in the US! Rilakkuma seems like the only one who avoided being actually inside a popcorn bucket himself haha. I like that they’ve been going with food themes for recent anniversary plushes :D

Any Rilakkuma designs catching your eye? I’ve been eying the Mister Donut beach towel promotion recently, and might pick up the blue design since there are a ton of affordable ones on auction right now!
